Happy New Year. Hello 2024 and today is the first New Moon of the Year, 11/1. Anyone else feeling the energy of new beginnings and a fresh start? To me, this year feels a lot different already. It’s lighter and there’s a ‘fresh start’ energy to it. This and the fact that today is the first New Moon of the year and it’s 11/1, I feel it is a fitting time to share with you today’s Kundalini yoga Kriya to create change.
Today I’m sharing with you the Kundalini Kriya for Liberation.
If you’ve been stuck in a rut, doing the same things and getting the same results, are wanting to break free from the old and are looking for a new beginning, then this kriya is for you. This kriya brings renewal and new beginnings.
If freeing yourself from the old, from what no longer serves you is what you’re needing. If you desire to create change in your life, then this kriya will help you to call in that fresh start.
How to practice the Kriya for Liberation:
No of Parts: The kriya for Liberartion is a 3 part kriya.
Each part: is held for 3 minutes.
Total kryia time: 9 minutes. Do not go for more than 9 minutes total kriya time.
This is a very challenging kriya and is tough on the arms. Try to keep them in position for the duration of the time but don’t worry if they drift a bit. Keeping your eyes closed and ‘sensing’ where your arms are with intention will still have an effect.
Modifications: If 9 minutes is too much, half the time for each part equally, eg, 1.5 minutes for each part, totalling 4.5 minute kriya.
Here are the written instructions for The Kriya of Liberation.
Base Posture:
-
- Sit in easy pose or in any comfortable position, ensure to keep your spine straight
-
- Keeping your arm straight, Raise your right arm up in front of you, approx 60 degree angle
-
- Make the same position with the left arm but Bring the left arm down behind you so the left hand is pointing towards the floor.
Hand Position 1:
-
- On both hands, Make a fist with the thumb overlapping the fingers
-
- Project your index (Jupiter) finger straight out, as if you’re pointing at something, the right is pointing up and the left is pointing towards the floor
-
- Close your eyes and focus them as if you are looking out of your chin
-
- Breathe long and deeply through the nose
-
- Continue this for 3 minutes
Hand Position 2:
-
- After 3 minutes, Keeping both arms in the same position, simply release the pinkie finger on both hands, so now the index and pinkie fingers are straight out on both hands
-
- Continue with the same eye focus and breath
-
- Stay here for 3 minutes
Hand Position 3:
-
- The final part: release all the fingers and thumbs out straight while all touching together on both hands
-
- The arms are still in the same 60 degree position
-
- The eyes are still focused through the chin and the breath is the same
-
- Stay here for 3 minutes
To End: Repeat 3 times
-
- Keeping the posture, Breathe in through the nose, hold the breath, squeeze the whole body, hold for 10 seconds, Exhale through the nose
- On the third exhale, slowly release the arms
Conclusion:
You can practice this kriya anytime you are wanting to create change in your life or you are finding it difficult to break an old pattern. If you feel called too, you can practice this as a daily practice for 40 days.
